A New Home: Brian’s Rapid Roots Experience
Brian Danner, originally from Southeast Michigan, relocated to Grand Rapids in early 2024 to take on a new role with Meijer. Although his previous visits to West Michigan were limited and mostly work-related, his recent move has opened the door to a deeper connection with the region—thanks in large part to the Rapid Roots program.
Brian describes Rapid Roots as an outstanding experience that helped him quickly feel at home in West Michigan, offering a dynamic blend of professional networking, cultural exploration, and community engagement. Through visits to local museums, community landmarks, and insightful sessions with guest speakers, Brian gained a comprehensive understanding of the area’s trademarks, such as its economy, lifestyle, recreational opportunities, and more.
He greatly appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the chance to meet other newcomers, forming both professional and personal connections. Now settled in a beautiful neighborhood with his family, Brian is excited to explore more of what West Michigan has to offer, especially the many trails and the beautiful lakeshore. Brian fosters a great appreciation for the West Michigan climate, saying “I genuinely enjoy experiencing all four seasons in Michigan, with fall being my favorite. I especially love hiking during the autumn months when the foliage transforms into vibrant colors.”
Brian has also had a great time exploring the many hidden gems throughout downtown Grand Rapids! His favorite nightlife spot so far is Silva, Grand Rapid’s first “Dinnertainment” venue. Brian’s Rapid Roots cohort wrapped up the program at Silva with a great game of bocce and a tour of the space, leaving everyone eager to return.
Rapid Roots not only eased his transition but also sparked genuine enthusiasm for his new home. As he experiences what the region has to offer, Brian looks forward to continue putting down roots in West Michigan.
