While Camila may have lived in the U.S for the past 10 years, her journey originally began in her home country of Brazil. After spending 2 years in Connecticut and 6 in San Francisco, it was time for her and husband to relocate to West Michigan.

In 2008, Camila and her husband decided to travel the world for nine months. They did a lot of road trips in the Western US and visited Tanzania, Indonesia, Australia, Brazil and Chile before re-establishing themselves in Grand Rapids.

Camila is very familiar with West Michigan. Her husband, Justin, is originally from Grand Rapids. In fact, they met in the Grand Rapids area when she lived with her host family for the duration of her exchange student program.

Initially, Camila’s intention was not to immediately jump into a new job, but instead meet new people, understand the region and it’s needs, and identify how she could add value. When she started her new role as a Principal at Grand Ventures, she quickly felt welcomed to the region.

“My quality of life has definitely improved. Not only are we closer to family and friends, but also much of the stress of the big US hubs doesn’t exist here. For instance, I used to spend 2.5 hours a day commuting, and today I could bike to work”, said Camila. “There is definitely a better sense of respect for people’s personal life and the value of work/life balance”.

Camila’s favorite pastime activity is practicing yoga. She also loves spending time outdoors in West Michigan whether it’s skiing, hiking, paddling, wind-surfing, or anything to stay active!

Since moving back to the area, Camila has seen much growth. This past January, Camila and her husband welcomed their first child. In addition, she was named a GRBJ 40 Under 40 honoree in October 2020
