Mason grew up in a small suburb of Chicago, but decided to venture to West Michigan to attend college at Grand Valley State University. After moving to Indianapolis post-graduation, Mason decided to settle down in Indiana. Little did he know, West Michigan would be calling him back to the region years later.
After living in Indianapolis for five years, Mason and his wife decided it was time for a change. However, picking up and moving his family to West Michigan was no easy task – especially with a 1-year-old. Now, looking back on the move, Mason said, “the transition back to the area went extraordinarily well. It feels just like I did when I attended school here… just more permanent!”
Now, Mason is loving his new job and his family is loving all that the region has to offer. Mason transitioned from a role in a non-profit organization to his new role as Communications Manager at Rockford Construction, a Hello West Michigan member company. “I’ve made many new friends as a result of my new position,” he said. “I’ve also gained plenty of invaluable experience that makes me feel like a more well-rounded communications professional.”
Not only has he grown as a professional, but Mason’s love for West Michigan has also grown. “The state is simply beautiful,” he said. “While summers are particularly great because of the warm weather and quick access to beaches, I also enjoy all four seasons, as there are endearing things to enjoy about each.”
Need some recommendations of things to do in the region? Mason suggests visiting the many towns that dot the Lake Michigan coast. His personal favorite? Downtown Holland.
