Steven’s story is a special one for our team here at Hello West Michigan. Steven uploaded his resume through our free job search assistance service to find a job, and ended up finding a position at our strategic partner, The Right Place, working in the same office space as our HWM team!
Like many, Steven faced difficulties relocating in March 2020. Moving during the peak of quarantine was not an easy lifestyle change, and even tougher for job searching.
Steven capitalized on his free time during quarantine by enrolling in a Data Analytics bootcamp to add to his 10-year manufacturing leadership skillset. His goal was to become a hybrid-type of consultant for manufacturers. With his sharpened new skills in his back pocket, Steven was offered a position as a Business Development Specialist at the Right Place in their Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center program in June.
The new job has given Steven exactly what he was looking for. His passion for his role makes his job feel less like work. His favorite part of his new position is his ability to help manufacturers achieve goals. He gets to assist manufacturers in problem solving, creating jobs, and bringing the community together with his support in business development.
Growing up in Chicago his entire life, Steven faced a significant change of pace and an environmental change. Luckily, Steven loves the outdoors, so West Michigan and all its trails have proved to be a perfect fit. His go-to trails to run are Peace Park, The Riverwalk, and Seidman Park. Steven is currently loving Lake Michigan from the other side of the lake!
Steven is an endurance athlete who participates and competes in Goruck starcourse events. These endurance events require participants to walk/run the 50-mile race while carrying a weighted backpack all in 22-hours of completion. The backpack must carry a weighted plate and all food and hydration needed for the race. Participants are tasked with creating their own map to hit each checkpoint that was provided to them prior to the race. Steven has gone on to win both races completed with his trainer! His fastest time was completed this May, finishing in just under 13 hours–WOW, that’s fast. We’re cheering Steven on in all his new endeavors!
