Scott is a Michigander, born and raised, but has also worked and lived in places like California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Ohio. The common thread for all of these locales is water. Scott loves living near water and the beach (Ohio is technically considered a Great Lakes State). But Michigan is the Great Lakes State and West Michigan has always been Scott’s true home. After being in a long-distance relationship with someone in West Michigan, he decided to move back and be closer to family and friends, as well as be near his favorite beaches again. 

 

Scott connected with Hello West Michigan in the summer as a trailing significant other and “gained a lot of traction” in his job search after going out in our Weekly Resume Pack. He made a connection with our member company, Aerotek, and developed a great relationship with one of Aerotek’s recruiters. This was ultimately how Scott connected with an office furniture manufacturing company who had a perfect position for him.  

 

Scott is now working in the innovations/development department as a Plastics Design Engineer, where he is utilizing his engineering and design background on a new product development team. In his new role, Scott is embracing the position and happy to be back to “what matters most–friends and family.” His new company is supportive of a healthy work life balance. “I really appreciate that unique offering from my company,” said Scott.  

 

Scott specifically relocated to the west side of the state due to the variety and number of things to do, and the more laid back and comfortable vibe. “Grand Rapids comes with all the amenities of a big city without feeling overwhelming, plus I always missed Lake Michigan.”  

 

He is taking advantage of all our region has to offer outside of the city too. Hiking Rosy Mound in Grand Haven, driving up to Crystal Mountain, or taking a staycation in Traverse City are some of his favorite things to do with free time. He also mentioned how much he loves the food options around the area, like Roses, Wolfgangs, Anna’s House, and Snug Harbor.  

 

Back in the area with a good job, his family, and a multitude of things to do, Scott’s story shows how powerful one good connection can be when it comes to finding the right fit when relocating. Hello West Michigan is here to help all new-comers and boomerangs find their fit.
