Making friendships happens through repeated, spontaneous interaction. You also need to have time to make friends and invest time in nurturing those friend relationships.
We’ve scoped out a few organizations that we think help adults with friend finding in West Michigan. The key: repeated interactions. Any activity where you see the same people in a social setting repeatedly over a short period of time is the first step to finding friends in West Michigan. The next step? Getting out of the house, making plans, and nurturing the fledgling friendships.
Michigan Made Mixers – a social event series we co-host with Lofts of GR and 601 Bond. Great for people who are new to West Michigan, boomerangs, or recent relocatees.
Grand Rapids Sport and Social Club – 8 week sports leagues happening throughout the year, with built-in happy hours
Girls Pint Out – a group of women that enjoys local breweries and craft beer education
United Way Young Leaders Society – a group for young professionals who volunteer together throughout the year.
Serving on a board or committee of a non-profit is a great way to make deeper connections with someone because you’re bonding over a shared interest, working together on projects, and meeting regularly. Check out our Community Involvement page for a list of local non-profits. Most probably have board or committee positions.
